Five Ways I Am Combating My Anxiety

Those who know me know that I’ve been pretty vocal about my struggles with postpartum anxiety. Now that my children are two and five, is it still considered postpartum anxiety? While it has gotten better over the years, there are moments where I am forced to deal with one of my triggers.  Here are 5 things I’ve added or changed in my life to improve my anxiety issues.

Crystals

I’m still learning and growing in knowledge of the benefits of crystals, but I can sense an obvious improvement in myself with their use.  I have this citrine and amethyst copper wrapped crystal hanging in my car.   I honestly feel less anxious on my way to work and so much more optimistic about the day.  I recently went through something very traumatic at work.  The next day, I wore my crystal that I usually keep in my car.  The feeling of comfort and peace I felt was really surprising.  I’m looking forward to getting one that I can wear all the time.  Do you have any experience with crystals?  Any resources you can refer me to so I can continue learning about them?

Essential Oils

I’ve always been interested in, but never took a full dive in to the benefits of essential oils.  We initially started using essential oils to attempt to calm Madeline when she was a baby. Nothing seemed to work and we were so desperate. It actually made a big difference and improved her sleep. Now, we constantly keep lavender diffusing to keep me calm.  It really does work.  Do you have any favorite essential oils?  I’d love to hear about them.

Enjoying Time Off

First of all, what’s time off?  For years, I’ve had a minimal amount of down time.  After having 2 children and getting 3 degrees, I’ve learned how to multitask.  But what about when I don’t have 10 things to juggle?  I feel like I’m missing something.  Like I’m doing something wrong by relaxing.  For years, I’ve struggled with just doing nothing, until now.  I’m learning to enjoy free time again.  A couple of weeks ago, I literally sat all day and played The Sims for hours. Hours! I can’t remember the last time I was so relaxed. I’m not at a point of not feeling guilty about it afterward, though.  Baby steps.

Minimalism

I think it’s very obvious how minimalism impacts intentional living.  Less is definitely more.  When I have less to focus on, I have more to enjoy.  I also have less to clean and maintain.  We’ve gotten a bit off track, but soon we’ll be getting back on our minimalism challenge.  Check it out here.

Expressing My Feelings

This is a big one and one I’ve struggled with for years.  I’ve withheld feelings so much that I’ve gotten physically ill from it.  Stress is very real and can have such a detrimental impact on your health.  Now, instead of withholding my feelings and opinions, I let them be none.  Maybe too much? This has also helped me to let go of toxic relationships.  That’s another topic for another day, though.

While these items have helped me, I’ve found the best thing for me is to avoid my triggers. Unfortunately, I can’t watch the news nor can I engage in certain conversations that may spark anxiety. I hope that one day I can overcome these struggles completely. Do you struggle with anxiety? I’d love to hear how you deal with it. Leave your comment below.
